Funding opportunity - Kid's Plates Program

The California Department of Public Health, Safe and Active Communities Branch is soliciting applications to develop, implement, and evaluate a set of small-scale, low-cost educational activities with underserved California schools.  The goal of the project is to build school interest and capacity to conduct year-round interventions to improve safety for walking and bicycling in the neighborhoods surrounding their school campuses.  Interventions must focus on improving safety rather than simply encouraging walking and bicycling.  Applicants must pre-select five to eight (5-8) elementary and/or middle schools to serve as local intervention sites and have a designated champion at each of the schools.  Up to $375,000 is available for two years.

This Request for Applications (RFA) is funded under the SACB’s California Kids’ Plates Program (Kids’ Plates). Kids’ Plates funding is generated from the sale of California specialty vehicle license plates that contain an embossed heart, hand, star, or plus sign. Revenue from the sale of Kids’ Plates is deposited into the Child Health and Safety Fund and is appropriated to support three significant child safety issues in California, including unintentional childhood injury precention by CDPH.

Up to three (3) awards are available for the most responsive and qualified entities earning the highest scores, ideally in different regions of the state (northern, central, or southern). This funding opportunity is open to all eligible firms that meet the qualification requirements, including government agencies, non-profit organizations, state or public universities (including auxiliary organizations), and other entities.  Please see the RFA for additional eligibility criteria.
