Save the Date for the Los Angeles County Active Transportation Coalition Meeting on Wednesday March 27th at 2pm at Exposition Park in Los Angeles

Join the Safe Routes to School National Partnership, Prevention Institute, Los Angeles County Department of Public HealthLos Angeles County Bicycle Coalition, Los Angeles Walks and partners and friends from all over Los Angeles County to discuss Transportation Policy and Investments to improve the built environment for our communities.

This event is open and free for all to attend, but RSVP’s are required and space is limited so sign up today!

  • Go Metro and transit/walk/bicycle to this meeting! Parking will not paid for by meeting organizers. We intentionally picked a meeting space within walking distance of Metro light rail (Expo Line: Expo Park/USC stop).  This area is also served by Metro bus 200 and other connecting lines.  Go Metro and enjoy the walk!

2 – 4  minutes – Welcome – Jessica Meaney, SRTSNP (and possibly Taj & Sadiq, students of Dr. Theodore T. Alexander Science Center School)

15 minutes – Bike Chain Speed Networking – Pauline Chow, SRTSNP

5 minutes – Framing of Issue – Jessica Meaney, SRTSNP (sharing of findings from LA County Transportation Finance Research)

35 minutes – facilitated by Jessica Meaney – Why we are here. Welcome and Introduction from leaders in Los Angeles County who talk about intersection of active transportation and their field. Discuss how transportation impacts so many sectors, many points our lives and communities in Los Angeles County and visions for improvement. Learn about different efforts thorough Los Angeles County to improve our communities and quality of life.

  • Problem Statement of LA County Built Environment from community leaders/sectors – 5 minutes each speaker

    • Manal Aboelata, Prevention Institute – health perspective

    • Mark Paredes, Alliance for a Better Community – education and family perspective

    • Mary Lee and Enrique Velasquez, Policy Link – equity perspective

    • Gilberto Espinoza, Advancement Project – public safety perspective

    • Denny Zane, Move LA – transportation perspective

    • Jackie Cornejo, LAANE – jobs and economic development perspective

15- 20 minutes – hearing from everyone.  Led by Gayle Haberman, Los Angeles County Department of Public Health – Now that we’ve heard from many representative and leaders in Los Angeles County on important issues, what did we miss?  What do others want to add to this discussion?
